The Oprah Connection
It’s true! Team FUUSEion has a ‘secret’ connection with Oprah!
Here’s the story: Coach Frank, who works at FIRST, (but not as part of FIRST LEGO League), was approached late one Friday afternoon in 2009 by the management of FLL for help. Oprah Winfrey’s magazine ‘O’ was doing a special on student robotics programs and needed a robot shipped to them immediately to photograph. FLL management asked
Coach Frank if there was any way he would be able
to ship Team FUUSEion’s robot on Saturday to get to
the ‘O’ offices on Monday morning for a photoshoot.
Coach Frank said ‘YES!’, and the next morning our
little robot was been jetted to the 28th Floor, downtown
New York City offices of ‘O’ magazine for the full star
treatment!
Unfortunately, the photos never made the magazine.
The magazine decided to shift the focus of the story to
all-girl robotics teams, which of course we are not, so we didn’t make the cut. Still, it left us with quite a story to tell!
